- Support lecturers (Rank 3), senior lecturers (Rank 2), and principal lecturers (Rank 1) in teaching activities, including: Lesson preparation, tutoring, guiding exercises, discussions, experiments, practical training, and grading;
- Study, cultivate, and improve political theory, professional expertise, and teaching methodology; participate in practical activities to enhance training quality and scientific research;
- Participate in management tasks, Communist Party tasks, union tasks, and other duties according to the organizational regulations and activities of public higher education institutions and relevant legal provisions.

Standards on professional ethics. According to the provisions of Article 3 of Circular 40/2020/TT-BGDDT, the professional ethics standards for teaching assistants at public higher education institutions are as follows:
- Be passionate about the profession, maintain the dignity, reputation, and honor of educators; have a spirit of solidarity, respect, and cooperation with colleagues in life and work; have compassion, tolerance, and gentleness with students, learners, and postgraduate students (collectively referred to as learners); protect the legitimate legal rights and interests of learners, colleagues, and the community.
- Be dedicated to the job; adhere to the internal regulations, rules of the public higher education institution, and other legal provisions of the sector.
- Be fair in teaching and education, accurately assess the actual abilities of learners; practice thrift, fight achievement disease, corruption, and waste.
- Other professional ethics standards as prescribed by law.
Standards on professional competency and expertise. According to the provisions of Article 4 of Circular 40/2020/TT-BGDDT, the standards on professional competency and expertise for teaching assistants at public higher education institutions are as follows:
+ Mastering the basic knowledge of the subject assigned to guide practice, experiments, internships, and having a general knowledge of several related subjects in the training major;
+ Understanding and implementing the objectives, plans, content, and program of the assigned subjects within the training major. Identifying the actual state and development trends of training and research in the major domestically and internationally;
+ Effectively and safely using teaching aids and equipment;
+ Being capable of applying information technology and using foreign languages in performing the duties of a Teaching Assistant (Rank III).
What is the highest salary rate for teaching assistants in public higher education institutions in Vietnam?
According to Article 10 of Circular 40/2020/TT-BGDDT, the salary classification is as follows:
Salary classification
- The professional titles of public employees teaching prescribed in this Circular are applied to the Professional and Technical Salary Table for officials, public employees in the State's public service provider (Table 3) issued together with Decree No. 204/2004/ND-CP dated December 14, 2004, of the Government of Vietnam on salary policies for officials and public employees and armed forces. Specifically:
a) The professional title of principal lecturer (Rank I) is applied the salary coefficient of public employees of type A3, group 1 (A3.1), from the salary coefficient of 6.20 to 8.00;
b) The professional title of senior lecturer (Rank II) is applied the salary coefficient of public employees of type A2, group 1 (A2.1), from the salary coefficient of 4.40 to 6.78;
c) The professional title of lecturer (Rank III), teaching assistant (Rank III) is applied the salary coefficient of public employees of type A1, from the salary coefficient of 2.34 to 4.98.
- The salary classification for the professional titles is implemented after being appointed by the competent authority to the professional title prescribed in this Circular, following the guidance in Clause 1, Section II of Circular No. 02/2007/TT-BNV dated May 25, 2007, of the Ministry of Home Affairs guiding salary classification when upgrading, transferring, and changing the type for officials and public employees, and pursuant to the current legal provisions.
Thus, the salary of teaching assistants at public higher education institutions is applied the salary coefficient of public employees of type A1, from the salary coefficient of 2.34 to 4.98 in the Professional and Technical Salary Table for officials, public employees in the State's public service providers (Table 3) issued together with Decree 204/2004/ND-CP.
According to Clause 2, Article 3 of Decree 73/2024/ND-CP, the statutory pay rate is prescribed as follows:

- The statutory pay rate is used as a basis for:
a) Calculating the salary in the salary tables, allowance levels, and implementing other policies in accordance with the law for the subjects stipulated in Article 2 of this Decree;
