3. The annual breaks of teachers includes: summer break, Lunar New Year holiday, semester break, and other holidays. Specifically:

a) The annual summer break of teachers is 02 months (including the annual leave as stipulated by the Labor Code), with full salary and allowances (if any).

b) Lunar New Year holiday, semester break shall follow the regulations of the Minister of Education and Training;

c) Other holidays shall follow the Labor Code.

Based on the academic year plan, scale, characteristics, and specific conditions of each school, the principal arranges the annual breaks for teachers reasonably according to conformable.

The annual summer break of teachers is 02 months (including the annual leave as stipulated by the Labor Code 2019) with full pay and allowances (if any).

Thus, teachers on summer break still receive full salary and allowances (if any).

What is the current statutory pay rate used to calculate salaries paid to teachers in Vietnam?

Under Article 3 of Decree 73/2024/ND-CP, the statutory pay rate used to calculate salaries paid to teachers is prescribed as follows:

Statutory pay rate

1. The statutory pay rate shall be used as the basis for:

a) Calculating salaries in payrolls, allowances and other benefits as per the law with regard to individuals defined in Article 2 of this Decree;

b) Calculating operation funding and subsistence allowances as per the law;

c) Calculating deductions and benefits according to the statutory pay rate.

2. From July 01, 2024, the statutory pay rate is VND 2,340,000 per month.

3. The agencies and units that are implementing the special financial and income mechanisms at central level: retain the differences between additional salaries and incomes in June, 2024 paid to officials and public employees and salaries paid from July 01, 2024 after such special financial and income mechanisms are amended or annulled. Pending such amendments to annulment, from July 01, 2024, the additional monthly salaries and incomes will be paid according to the statutory pay rate of VND 2,340,000 million/month as prescribed by such special mechanisms, ensuring that they shall not exceed the additional salaries and incomes paid in June, 2024 (excluding the increase in salaries and incomes resulted from adjustment of rank- or grade-based pay rate). If the increase in salaries and incomes from July 01, 2024 calculated using the aforementioned special mechanism is lower than the salaries calculated using normal methods, the latter shall apply.

4. The Government shall adjust the statutory pay rate after requesting the National Assembly to consider making its decision in conformity with the capacity of the state budget, consumer price index and national economic growth rate.

Thus, when the statutory pay rate increases, the base pay based on the salary coefficient and the statutory pay rate for teachers at different education levels will significantly increase as follows:

- For salaries paid to preschool teachers:

+ The lowest salary increases from 3,780,000 VND to 4,914,000 VND/month.

+ The highest salary step increases from 11,484,000 VND to 14,929,200 VND/month.

- For salaries paid to primary, lower, and upper secondary school teachers:

+ The lowest salary step increases from 4,212,000 VND to 5,475,600 VND/month.

+ The highest salary step increases from 12,204,000 VND to 15,865,200 VND/month.
