- General Qualities and Competencies Requirements:
The English education curriculum contributes to the formation and development of essential qualities (patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, responsibility) and general competencies (autonomy and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity).
- Specific Competencies Requirements for upper secondary Level:
+ After completing the English subject in secondary school, students are expected to achieve Level 3 of the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam.
To be specific: "Students are able to understand the main points of a standard, clear text or speech on familiar topics in work, school, leisure, etc. Students are able to handle most situations that arise in areas where the language is used.
+ Can write simple paragraphs related to familiar or personally interesting topics.
+ Can describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes, ambitions, and provide brief reasons and explanations for opinions and plans."
- Through the subject of English, students gain a deeper understanding of the countries, people, cultures of English-speaking and other countries around the world.
Understand and respect cultural diversity while initially reflecting the values of Vietnamese culture in English;
Develop qualities such as love for the country, honesty, compassion, and responsibility towards the environment and community.
Thus, upper secondary school students, after completing upper secondary education, must meet both the general requirements and the specific competencies of the English education curriculum for the upper secondary level.

What is the implementation schedule of the 2018 English Education Curriculum in Vietnam?
Based on Article 2 of Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the implementation schedule of the education curriculum is as follows:
The education curriculum will be implemented according to the following schedule:
1. From the 2020-2021 school year for Grade 1.
2. From the 2021-2022 school year for Grades 2 and 6.
3. From the 2022-2023 school year for Grades 3, 7, and 10.
4. From the 2023-2024 school year for Grades 4, 8, and 11.
5. From the 2024-2025 school year for Grades 5, 9, and 12.
By the 2024 - 2025 school year, the 2018 English education curriculum will be applied to all educational levels.
What are the objectives of the English Education Curriculum for upper secondary schools in Vietnam?
According to Section 3 of the English Education Curriculum issued in conjunction with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of the program are defined as follows:
- General Objectives:
+ The English education curriculum helps students acquire a new tool for communication, forming and developing communication competencies in English through listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Upon completing the education curriculum, students will have communication abilities at Level 3 of the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework for Vietnam, laying a foundation for using English in learning, fostering lifelong learning habits to become global citizens in the integration era.
+ The English education curriculum helps students gain a broad understanding of the countries, people, and cultures of English-speaking and other countries around the world; cultivate a positive attitude and affection towards the countries, people, cultures, and languages of those nations.
Additionally, the English education curriculum contributes to forming and developing essential qualities and competencies for the workforce: work ethic and responsibility, career orientation, and choice suitable to abilities and adapting to new industrial revolutions.
- Upper secondary Level Objectives:
After completing the upper secondary English program, students can:
+ Use English as a tool for communication through the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing to meet basic and practical communication needs on familiar topics related to school, recreational activities, careers, etc.
+ Continue to form and develop basic knowledge of English, including phonetics, vocabulary, grammar; gain a broader understanding of the countries, people, and cultures of English-speaking and other nations around the world through English, understand and respect cultural diversity while initially reflecting the values of Vietnamese culture in English.
+ Use English to enhance the learning quality of other subjects in the education curriculum.
+ Use English to pursue higher education goals or work immediately after completing upper secondary.
+ Apply different learning methods to manage study time, use information technology in learning and self-learning, consolidate self-study methods, self-assessment, and be responsible for learning outcomes, forming lifelong learning habits.
