1. Primary school teachers acting as homeroom teachers are reduced 3 lessons per week*, while lower secondary school and upper secondary school homeroom teachers are reduced 4 lessons per week.*
2. Homeroom teachers at boarding ethnic secondary schools at the lower and upper secondary levels are reduced 4 lessons per week. Homeroom teachers at specialized schools and semi-boarding ethnic secondary schools are reduced 4 lessons per week. Homeroom teachers at schools or classes for disabled persons are reduced 3 lessons per week.
2a. Homeroom teachers at pre-university schools are reduced 3 lessons per week.
3. Teachers in charge of subject classrooms are reduced 3 lessons per subject per week.
4. Teachers concurrently in charge of school-wide activities such as arts, physical education, garden maintenance, workshop, equipment room, and library (if these duties do not have dedicated staff) are reduced by 2-3 lessons per week, depending on the workload and as decided by the principal.
5. Professional team leaders are reduced 3 lessons per week.
5a. Professional team deputy leaders are reduced 1 period per week.
5b. Teachers concurrently heading function rooms at pre-university schools are reduced 3 lessons per week;
Teachers concurrently serving as deputy heads of function rooms at pre-university schools are reduced 1 period per week.
Thus, primary school teachers acting as homeroom teachers are reduced by 03 lessons/week.

Teaching lesson norms
The teaching lesson norm is the number of theoretical or practical lessons each teacher must teach in a week. To be specific:
1. The teaching lesson norm for primary school teachers is 23 lessons; for lower secondary school teachers, it is 19 lessons; and for upper secondary school teachers, it is 17 lessons;
2. The teaching lesson norm for teachers at boarding ethnic secondary schools is 17 lessons at the lower secondary level and 15 lessons at the upper secondary level.
The teaching lesson norm for teachers at semi-boarding ethnic secondary schools is 21 lessons at the primary level, 17 lessons at the lower secondary level.
The teaching lesson norm for teachers at schools or classes for the disabled or handicapped is 21 lessons for primary school teachers and 17 lessons for lower secondary school teachers.
The teaching lesson norm for teachers at pre-university schools is 12 lessons.
3. A teacher acting as the leader of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization of a Grade I school teaches 2 lessons a week, a Grade 2 school teaches 1/3 of the teaching lesson norm, and a Grade 3 school teaches 1/2 of the teaching lesson norm of teachers of the same education level. The classification of schools follows current regulations.
Thus, the teaching lesson norm for primary school teachers is 23 lessons, except in the cases of:
- Teachers at semi-boarding ethnic secondary schools: 21 lessons per week.
- Teachers at schools or classes for disabled persons: 21 lessons per week.

2. The working period for lower secondary and upper secondary school teachers in a school year is 42 weeks, including:
a) 37 weeks for teaching and educational activities as per the academic plan;
b) 03 weeks for training and professional development;
c) 01 week for preparing for the new school year;
d) 01 week for summarizing the school year.
2a. The working period for pre-university school teachers is 42 weeks, including:
a) 28 weeks for teaching and educational activities as per the school year plan;
b) 12 weeks for training, professional development, curriculum development, scientific research, and other activities per the school year plan;
c) 01 week for preparing for the new school year;
d) 01 week for summarizing the school year.
3. The annual breaks for teachers includes summer vacation, Lunar New Year holiday, semester breaks, and other holidays as specified:
a) The annual summer vacation for teachers is 2 months (including annual leave as per the Labor Code), with full salary and allowances (if any);
b) Lunar New Year holiday, semester breaks as per regulations of the Minister of Education and Training;
c) Other holidays as per the Labor Code.
Based on the academic plan, scale, characteristics, and specific conditions of each school, the principal arranges annual breaks for teachers in a reasonable manner.
Thus, the working period for primary school teachers in a school year is 42 weeks, including:
- 35 weeks for teaching and educational activities as per the academic plan.
