How many weeks does the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam last?

Based on Article 2 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024:

Principles for developing the school year time plan for localities

1. The school year time plan for localities must ensure 35 weeks of actual learning (the first semester has 18 weeks, and the second semester has 17 weeks).

2. The school year time plan must be appropriate to the characteristics and actual conditions of the locality.

3. Public holidays and Tet holidays are implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.

4. The annual leave for teachers is implemented during the summer vacation or can be scheduled alternately at other times of the year to fit the specific characteristics and school year time plan of the locality.

5. The school year time plan needs to ensure uniformity for all levels of education in a residential area, especially in general schools with multiple levels of education.

The 2024-2025 school year lasts 35 weeks, the first semester lasts 18 weeks, and the second semester lasts 17 weeks.

What is the educational plan for the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam in terms of student learning time at different levels?

Based on Section 4 of the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the educational plan for the 2024-2025 school year on student learning time at different levels is as follows:

The General Education Program is divided into two stages:

The basic education stage (from grade 1 to grade 9) and the vocational orientation education stage (from grade 10 to grade 12).

The system of subjects and educational activities of the general education program includes compulsory subjects and educational activities, elective subjects oriented towards vocational orientation (abbreviated as elective subjects), and optional subjects.

The actual learning time in one school year is equivalent to 35 weeks. Educational institutions can organize teaching either one session/day or two sessions/day.

Educational institutions that organize teaching either one session/day or two sessions/day must implement the unified compulsory educational content for all educational institutions across the country.

(1). Basic Education Stage

- Primary Level

Implement teaching two sessions/day, arranging no more than 7 lessons per day; each lesson lasts 35 minutes. Educational institutions that are not yet able to organize teaching two sessions/day shall implement the educational plan as guided by the Ministry of Education and Training.

- Lower Secondary Level

Each day, a single session is taught, with no more than 5 lessons per session; each lesson lasts 45 minutes. Schools are encouraged to organize teaching two sessions/day where conditions permit, following the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.

(2). Vocational Orientation Education Stage (High School Level)

Each day, a single session is taught, with no more than 5 lessons per session; each lesson lasts 45 minutes. High schools are encouraged to organize teaching two sessions/day where conditions permit, following the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.
