Guidelines for Clinical Diagnosis of Malaria

The Ministry of Health has issued Decision No. 4845/QD-BYT providing guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of malaria.

According to the guidelines, a clinical malaria case must meet all 4 of the following criteria:

- First, fever:- Exhibits typical symptoms of malaria: chills, fever, and sweating;- Or has fever symptoms that are not in episodes (the patient feels chills, shivers) or continuous high fever, fluctuating fever;- Or had a fever in the past 3 days.- Second, no other causes of the fever can be identified;- Third, exposure to a malaria-endemic area for at least 14 days or a history of malaria in the past 2 years;- Fourth, responds to malaria treatment medication.

For detailed guidelines on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of malaria, refer to Decision 4845/QD-BYT, which came into effect on September 08, 2016, and repealed Decision 3232/QD-BYT.
