Regulations on Minimum Educational Standards for Associate Degrees in Vocal Music

Recently, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has issued Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum amount of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must achieve after graduating from intermediate and college levels for majors and trades in the fields of arts, fine arts, and languages.

Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulates that college-level vocal music as a professional career involves performing songs using one’s own voice in various genres of music such as: classical, folk, lyrical, revolutionary, popular music (light music) like pop, rock, jazz, ballad, dance, rapper, r&b..., meeting the level 5 requirements in the Vietnamese National Qualification Framework. After graduating from the college-level vocal music program, students must complete the following minimum volume of knowledge:

- Determine the position and role of the singer participating in artistic performances and the impact of art on the economy, politics, culture, and society;- Analyze basic knowledge about the history of Vietnamese and world music, foundational music industry knowledge such as solfeggio, recording, harmony...;- Analyze systematic and basic knowledge about vocal techniques, understanding singing methods from classical, folk, and contemporary traditions;- Determine specialized knowledge and techniques for practicing and constructing vocal music performances to meet set requirements;- Present techniques for performing vocal works such as: Aria, Romance, suite, songs, chorus...;- Present forms of art related to the profession such as stage performance art, dance art, makeup art, costumes...;- Analyze various stage performance forms and the singer's position and role on stage depending on specific music genres and artistic performance programs;- Present methods for selecting specialized audio equipment and tools, the main types of musical instruments used in performances, and explain their functions;- Present measures to ensure the safety of equipment, instruments, and performers;- Present basic knowledge about politics, culture, society, law, national defense, security, and physical education as prescribed.

Note: The minimum knowledge volume is 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).
