Tan Suu Lunar New Year 2021 in Vietnam: Do not let households at risk of starvation on Tet holiday

Official Dispatch No. 4782/LĐTBXH-BTXH stated that in order to contribute to stabilizing people's lives during the Tan Suu Lunar New Year and in early 2021 due to natural disasters and epidemics occurring in 2020, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam requests the People's Committees of central-affiliated provinces and cities to direct the implementation of the following contents:

- Reviewing and summarizing the number of households and people at risk of starvation during the Tan Suu Lunar New Year and early 2021; proactively mobilize resources, including the local budget, to provide timely support to households at risk of starvation, especially those affected by natural disasters.

+ In case local resources are not sufficient, the People's Committees of central-affiliated provinces and cities shall send a written request to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Finance to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration of rice support before January 10, 2021.

+ A written request for rice support, specifying information on the number of households, the number of people needing support, the duration of support is 01 month for support for hunger relief during Tet and up to 3 months for support for hunger relief.

- Actively developing plans to visit, give gifts and provide social support during the Tan Suu Lunar New Year in 2021; mobilizing organizations and individuals and allocating local budgets to take care of the poor and disadvantaged people, ensuring that everyone has a happy, healthy and thrifty Tet.

- Timely payment of benefits to social protection beneficiaries in accordance with current regulations.

- Quickly report the plan of social assistance during the Lunar New Year to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (via the Department of Social Protection) before February 05, 2021; daily report on Tet holiday from February 10, 2021 to the end of February 16, 2021 and a summary report on social assistance during the Lunar New Year before March 20, 2021.
