1. What is hydrometeorological forecast and warning?
- Hydrometeorological forecasts mean the provision of information and data about conditions, developments and phenomena of hydrometeorology in the future at a certain area in a specified period of time.
- Hydrometeorological warnings mean the provision of information and data about possible hydrometeorological hazards that may affect or cause damage to people, properties and environment.
(According to Clause 7 and Clause 8, Article 3 of the Law on Hydrometeorology 2015)
2. Regulations on duration for hydrometeorological forecasts and warnings in Vietnam
Specifically, from Article 4 to Article 9 of Circular 08/2022/TT-BTNMT stipulating the Duration for hydro-meteorological forecasting and warning as follows:
* Weather forecast and warnings duration
- Extremely short duration: forecast, warning up to 12 hours.
- Short duration: forecast, warning from over 12 hours to up to 72 hours.
- Medium duration: forecast, warning from more than 3 days to a maximum of 10 days.
* Climate forecast duration
- Long duration: forecast, warning from over 10 days to up to 01 month.
- Season duration: forecast, warning from over 01 month to maximum 06 months.
- Annual uration: forecasts and warnings from over 06 months to a maximum of 12 months.
* Hydrological warning and forecast duration
- Extremely short duration: forecast, warning up to 12 hours.
- Short duration:
+ For large rivers, except for the Mekong River: forecasts and warnings from over 12 hours to up to 48 hours;
+ For the Mekong River: forecasts and warnings from over 12 hours to up to 5 days;
+ The remaining rivers: forecast, warning from over 12 hours to up to 24 hours.
- Medium duration
+ For large rivers, except for the Mekong River: forecasts and warnings from over 48 hours to a maximum of 10 days;
+ For the Mekong River: forecasts and warnings for more than 5 days to a maximum of 10 days;
+ The remaining rivers: forecast, warning from over 24 hours to up to 10 days.
- Long duration: forecast, warning from over 10 days to up to 01 month.
- Season duration: forecast, warning from over 01 month to maximum 06 months.
* Water source forecast duration
- Short duration: forecast up to 07 days.
- Medium duration: forecast from over 07 days to a maximum of 15 days.
- Long duration: forecast, warning from more than 15 days to maximum 01 month.
- Season duration: forecast, warning from over 01 month to maximum 06 months.
- Duration of the year: forecasts and warnings from over 06 months to a maximum of 12 months.
* Duration for forecast, marine warning
- Extremely short duration: forecast, warning up to 12 hours.
- Short duration: forecast, warning from over 12 hours to up to 03 days.
- Medium duration: forecast, warning from more than 3 days to a maximum of 10 days.
- Long duration: forecast, warning from over 10 days to up to 01 month.
- Season duration: forecast, warning from over 01 month to maximum 06 months.
* Period of forecast, other hydro-meteorological warnings
- Duration for hydro-meteorological forecasting for agriculture
+ Short duration: forecast, warning up to 03 days;
+ Medium duration: forecast, warning from more than 3 days to a maximum of 10 days;
+ Long duration: forecast from over 10 days to a maximum of 1 month;
+ Seasonal duration: forecast from over 1 month to a maximum of 6 months.
- Cold air forecast period
Short duration: forecast, warning up to 03 days.
- Duration for general hydro-meteorological forecast: comply with the duration of the component message with the longest forecast period.
- Thematic forecast period at the request of the user: made on the basis of an order or agreement between the user and the agency, organization, or individual that issues the forecast and warning bulletins.
- Duration for hydrometeorological forecasts and warnings according to international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a contracting party: comply with international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a signatory.
