Yesterday (October 4, 2023), the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) introduced to the press the new points of the Food Safety Law and its Decree.
Law on Food Safety and Hygiene has many new points, such as regulations on food safety management principles, the primary responsibility of producers and business operators, food safety management according to regulations and technical standards, ensuring clear assignment, decentralization, and inter-sectoral coordination for food safety management.
Additionally, the Law clearly sets out State policies on food safety, including the need to develop strategies to ensure food safety, plan safe food production areas according to the food supply chain, etc.
Regarding sub-law decrees, representatives of the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene stated that in cases of severe violations or repeated offenses, the penalties can be up to VND 100 million and revocation of licenses and business operations.
Also at the meeting, representatives of the press raised many questions about delays in licensing or slow information warnings in food safety and hygiene issues.
