According to the guidance in Circular 42/2017/TT-BQP issued by the Ministry of Defense on February 27, 2017, the admission process for universities and colleges in military schools in 2017 has significant changes. Notably:
No Enrollment for Nearsighted Candidates in Officer and Logistics Training Schools
One noteworthy point regarding health standards is that command, political, and logistics officer training schools, such as the Academies of Logistics, Air Defense - Air Force, Navy, Border Defense, and officer schools (Infantry 1, Infantry 2, Political, Artillery, Engineering, Armored, Communications, Special Forces, Chemical) will not enroll candidates with myopia.
For technical officer training schools such as the Military Engineering Academy, Military Medical Academy, Military Science Academy, Military Culture and Arts University, and the aviation engineering training programs under the Air Defense - Air Force Academy, and the Military Technical Officer School (Vin-Hem Pich), only candidates with myopia not exceeding 3 diopters will be accepted. Therefore, candidates with myopia exceeding 3 diopters will not be considered.
No High School Transcript Required for Application
According to the amendments in Circular 42, the application for pre-qualification only includes:
- 03 pre-qualification application forms;- 01 health examination certificate;- 01 political verification certificate;- 01 priority certificate for candidates entitled to priority (if any);- 04 passport photos.
Thus, this year candidates applying for consideration do not need to submit a high school transcript (THPT) or an excerpt of their high school transcript.
Military Schools Organize Admissions Based on Seven Combinations:
Following the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, military schools will use the following admission combinations:
- Combination A00 (including subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry);- Combination A01 (including subjects: Mathematics, Physics, English);- Combination B00 (including subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology);- Combination C00 (including subjects: Literature, History, Geography);- Combination D01 (including subjects: Mathematics, Literature, English);- Combination D02 (including subjects: Mathematics, Literature, Russian);- Combination D04 (including subjects: Mathematics, Literature, Chinese).
Whereby:

Candidates May Only Apply to One Military School
According to regulations, candidates may only apply for one priority choice (the highest aspiration) to one military school from the time they submit their pre-qualification application (if the school offers multiple programs, candidates may only apply to one program). Other choices can be applied to schools outside the military or civilian programs of military schools, following the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Military schools also only consider candidates who register for their top priority choice (the highest aspiration). Notably, candidates who have participated in the pre-qualification process for military schools cannot participate in the pre-qualification process for schools under the Ministry of Public Security.
Shortened Pre-Qualification Registration Period
Candidates should note that this year, the pre-qualification registration period is from March 1 to April 25 (instead of extending to May 10 as in previous years).
The registration time for the National High School Examination will still follow the current regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Candidates who are civilians registering for pre-qualification should do so before or after registering for the National High School Examination.
Military personnel currently in service must pass pre-qualification and meet the standards to register for the National High School Examination.
More details can be found in Circular 42/2017/TT-BQP effective from April 14, 2017, amending and supplementing Circular 17/2016/TT-BQP on guiding the recruitment process into military schools.
