Vietnam: Good intentions may turn into crime

You might have heard about the fraudulent tactics of drug criminals, haven't you? They are ready to exploit all kinds of methods to transport drugs under any form, such as hiding them in food, or concealing them in clothing,... even "asking for help" from people nearby, including children and the elderly, to transport them. These tactics are commonly encountered in public places with many people passing by, especially in areas with control zones like airport customs.

Recently, these criminals have turned ordinary water bottles into tools for hiding drugs. This tactic is quite sophisticated, and if you are not careful, you may be deceived! A video depicting the method of hiding drugs through a water bottle has been posted on social media. At first glance, you may think it is just a water bottle, but the truth is revealed when you gently twist the lower part of the bottle and lift it up, you will see a secret compartment exposed, inside of which is a space used for storing drugs.

Your actions may constitute the crime of illegal possession, transportation, sale, or appropriation of narcotics as stipulated in Article 194 of the Criminal Code as follows:

"1. Anyone who illegally possesses, transports, sells, or appropriates narcotic substances shall be sentenced to imprisonment from two to seven years.

2. Committing the crime in one of the following circumstances shall be sentenced to imprisonment from seven to fifteen years:

a) Organized crime;

b) Repeated offenses;

c) Abusing positions and powers;

d) Abusing the name of an agency or organization;

đ) Transporting or selling across borders;

....”

At the same time, you also need to be vigilant and not easily carry, hold, or keep luggage for others. Always keep your luggage within your control.

Criminals nowadays are rampant with sophisticated schemes and new tricks. Therefore, wherever you are, regardless of the area, if you encounter similar situations, you as an individual must be very careful, alert, and take measures to protect yourself. Do not let your goodwill be exploited to lead to unfortunate consequences.
