The Art of Avoiding Traffic Police Fines When Parking and Stopping Vehicles

Currently, the Traffic Police commonly impose penalties for stopping and parking violations. This is primarily due to the public's non-compliance with legal regulations on stopping and parking, which causes obstructions and dangers to other traffic participants. To avoid this situation, everyone must be aware of the following regulations.

According to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 18, Road Traffic Law 2008, when stopping or parking a vehicle on the road, the driver must comply with the following regulations:

- Have signals to notify other vehicle drivers;

- Stop or park in a place with a wide roadside or homestead land outside the roadway; in case of narrow or no roadside, the vehicle must stop or park close to the right edge of the road in the direction of travel;

- If there are designated places for stopping or parking on the road, the vehicle must stop or park in those positions;

If the parked vehicle occupies part of the roadway, immediately place dangerous warning signs in front and behind the vehicle to alert other vehicle drivers;

- Do not open the car door, leave the car door open, or get out of the car without ensuring safety conditions;

- When stopping the car, do not turn off the engine and do not leave the driving position;

- Vehicles parked on a slope must have the wheels chocked.

In case of stopping or parking a vehicle on the street, in addition to complying with the above regulations, the driver must also comply with the following regulations:

- Must stop or park close to the right side according to the direction of travel;

- The nearest wheel must not be more than 0.25 meters away from the curb and must not cause obstruction or danger to traffic. In case of a narrow street, the vehicle must stop or park at a position at least 20 meters away from the parked vehicle on the other side of the road;

- Do not stop or park the vehicle on tram tracks, on drainage covers, telephone network tunnels, high voltage electrical network tunnels, or water intake places for fire trucks. Do not leave the vehicle on the roadway or sidewalk contrary to regulations.

Note, according to Clause 4, Article 18 of the Road Traffic Law 2008, if you comply with the above regulations but stop or park the vehicle at prohibited places, the Traffic Police will still fine you:

- On the left side of a one-way street;

- On bends and near crests with obscured vision;

- On bridges, under overpasses;

- Parallel with another stopped or parked vehicle;

- On pedestrian crosswalks;

- At intersections within 5 meters from the intersection edge;

- At bus stops;

- In front of gates or within 5 meters of both sides of the gates of agency or organization headquarters;

- At places where the road width only allows one lane of vehicles;

- Within the safety range of railways;

- Obstructing traffic signs.

The above are all regulations related to stopping and parking vehicles when participating in traffic. If violating the above regulations, depending on the type of vehicle, you will be fined with the corresponding fine level stipulated in Decree 46/2016/ND-CP. By adhering to these regulations, you will never be fined by the Traffic Police for stopping or parking violations.
