On December 23, 2008, the People's Council of Can Gio District issued Resolution 09/2008/NQ-HDND regarding the socio-economic tasks in Vietnam for 2009.

Resolution 09/2008/NQ-HDND outlines the Socio-Economic tasks in 2009 as follows:
- Regularly inspect and implement measures to support and expedite the progress of investment projects in infrastructure related to transportation, schools, and projects in impoverished communes;
- Mobilize resources for economic restructuring, ecotourism development, and the development of healthcare, culture, and education;
- Accelerate the implementation of urban planning, continue to consolidate and enhance land management, and urban order management in parallel with encouraging the practice of civilized urban living;
- Organize a review of the program for relocating 1,280 households, and implement the project to relocate 1,400 households living along rivers, seas, low-lying areas, and protected forests, as well as the project to relocate residents of Thanh An commune, once approved by the city People's Committee;
- Inspect and evaluate the performance of tasks in relation to the effectiveness of fund usage by departments following the reorganization of specialized agencies under the district People's Committee;
- Direct measures to maintain the achievements of the Illiteracy Eradication and Education Universalization Program at various educational levels; enhance the implementation of the Population - Family Planning Program, disease prevention, and food safety;
- Strengthen the implementation of solutions to mobilize resources for carrying out 7 Socio-Economic programs and 10 key project groups in accordance with the Resolution of the IXth District Party Congress and the 5-year socio-economic development plan (2006 - 2010).
