Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT on the Regulation of Master’s Degree Training.
What are the requirements for members of the master thesis evaluation committee? (Illustrative image)
The Master's Degree Training Regulations issued with Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT stipulate that the master thesis evaluation committee is established by the head of the training institution, based on the proposal of the head of the specialized unit and the head of the postgraduate training management unit, within a maximum of 30 working days from the date the student submits the thesis and meets the conditions for thesis defense. The evaluation committee consists of five members, including the chairperson, secretary, two reviewers, and a member. The committee must have at least two members from outside the training institution, from two different units; among them, at least one person must be a reviewer.
The requirements for members of the master thesis evaluation committee are as follows:
- The members of the committee must have held a doctoral degree for at least two years or hold the titles of Associate Professor or Professor in the same field of study as the student and be knowledgeable in the subject area of the thesis. For application-oriented theses, among the external members of the committee, there must be at least one person who is working in the field of the thesis topic. If there are no eligible professionals working in the specific field, a master's degree holder with at least three years of experience in the same field and a minimum of 15 years of practical experience in the thesis topic field may be invited as a member of the committee;- The chairperson of the committee must be a person with professional competence, scientific reputation, and experience in organizing and managing the committee's work;- The reviewers must have deep understanding of the thesis topic field;- The thesis advisor and individuals with relationships by blood or marriage (parent, spouse, child, sibling) with the thesis defender must not participate in the committee;- Committee members must take responsibility for the honesty and objectivity in their comments and evaluations of the thesis as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 29 of these Regulations.
