On November 14, 2024, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued Resolution 1281/NQ-UBTVQH15 regarding the reorganization of commune-level administrative units of Quang Tri Province for the period 2023-2025.

Reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Quang Tri province from January 1, 2025

Resolution 1281/NQ-UBTVQH15 in 2024 resolves to reorganize the commune-level administrative units of Quang Tri Province from January 1, 2025, as follows:

(1) Reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Gio Linh District

- Merge the entire natural area of 20.50 km², with a population scale of 2,924 people, of Linh Hai Commune into Gio Son Commune. After merging, Gio Son Commune has a natural area of 34.55 km² and a population scale of 8,285 people.

Gio Son Commune borders Gio An, Gio Quang, Hai Thai communes, the commune-level town of Gio Linh, and Cam Lo District;

- Adjust a part of the natural area of 8.25 km², with a population scale of 1,456 people, of Gio Chau Commune into Gio Quang Commune. After merging, Gio Quang Commune has a natural area of 26.58 km² and a population scale of 5,040 people.

Gio Quang Commune borders Gio Mai, Gio Son communes, the commune-level town of Gio Linh; Cam Lo District, Trieu Phong District, and Dong Ha City;

- Merge the entire natural area of 8.93 km², with a population scale of 3,272 people, of Gio Chau Commune, after adjustment according to item b, into the commune-level town of Gio Linh. After merging, the commune-level town of Gio Linh has a natural area of 16.63 km² and a population scale of 12,939 people.

Gio Linh Town borders Gio An, Gio Mai, Gio My, Gio Quang, Gio Son communes, and Phong Binh;

- Merge the entire natural area of 3.57 km², with a population scale of 6,558 people, of Gio Viet Commune into the commune-level town of Cua Viet. After merging, the commune-level town of Cua Viet has a natural area of 10.45 km2 and a population scale of 12,769 people.

Cua Viet Town borders Gio Hai, Gio Mai communes; Trieu Phong District and the East Sea;

- After reorganization, Gio Linh District has 14 commune-level administrative units, including 12 communes and 02 commune-level towns.

(2) Reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Trieu Phong District

- Establish Trieu Co Commune on the basis of merging the entire natural area of 17.65 km², with a population scale of 4,625 people, of Trieu Son Commune and the entire natural area of 12.90 km², with a population scale of 5,555 people, of Trieu Lang Commune. After establishment, Trieu Co Commune has a natural area of 30.55 km² and a population scale of 10,180 people.

Trieu Co Commune borders Trieu Tai, Trieu Tan, Trieu Trach, Trieu Trung communes; Hai Lang District and the East Sea;

- Establish Trieu Tan Commune on the basis of merging the entire natural area of 10.66 km², with a population scale of 3,694 people, of Trieu Van Commune and the entire natural area of 13.90 km², with a population scale of 8,382 people, of Trieu An Commune. After establishment, Trieu Tan Commune has a natural area of 24.56 km² and a population scale of 12,076 people.

Trieu Tan Commune borders Trieu Co, Trieu Phuoc, Trieu Trach communes; Gio Linh District and the East Sea;

- After reorganization, Trieu Phong District has 16 commune-level administrative units, including 15 communes and 01 commune-level town.

(3) Reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Hai Lang District

- Establish Hai Binh Commune on the basis of merging the entire natural area of 15.02 km², with a population scale of 4,625 people, of Hai Que Commune and the entire natural area of 22.72 km², with a population scale of 6,557 people, of Hai Ba Commune. After establishment, Hai Binh Commune has a natural area of 37.74 km² and a population scale of 11,182 people.

Hai Binh Commune borders Hai An, Hai Duong, Hai Dinh, Hai Hung, Hai Khe communes, and Trieu Phong District;

- After reorganization, Hai Lang District has 15 commune-level administrative units, including 14 communes and 01 commune-level town.

After arranging the commune-level administrative units, Quang Tri Province has 10 district-level administrative units, including 08 districts, 01 district-level town, and 01 city; 119 commune-level administrative units, including 95 communes, 13 wards, and 11 towns.
