Regulations on Motorbike License Plates for Foreigners

Circular 64/2017/TT-BCA amending Circular 15/2014/TT-BCA providing regulations on vehicle registration was promulgated on December 28, 2017. Notably, the amendments pertain to the regulations on motorcycle license plates for foreign nationals, previously stipulated in Circular 15/2014/TT-BCA.

To be specific, according to the contents of Section 5, Annex 4, as amended and supplemented under Circular 64/2017/TT-BCA, the regulations on motorbike license plates for foreigners are as follows:

* Arrangement of letters and numbers on the license plate

The license plate consists of groups of letters and numbers arranged specifically as follows:

- The first group is the local registration code.

- The second group is the country code of the vehicle owner.

- The third group is the registration serial.

- The fourth group is the registration order number consisting of 3 natural digits from 001 to 999.

- Between the local registration code and the country code, the registration serial, and the registration order number are separated by a hyphen (-).

Example: On the license plate in image H6:

+ 29 is the local registration code.

+ 121 is the country code (stipulated in Annex 03 issued with this Circular).

+ NN is the registration serial used for foreign vehicles.

+ 101 is the registration order number.

* Regarding the registration order

- Motorbikes with a cylinder capacity of less than 50 cm3 have a registration order from 001 to 400.

- Motorbikes with a cylinder capacity from 50 cm3 to less than 175 cm3 have a registration order from 401 to 900.

- Motorbikes with a cylinder capacity of 175 cm3 or more have a registration order from 901 to 999.

* Dimensions of letters and numbers

- Height of letters and numbers: 55 mm.

- Width of letters and numbers: 22 mm.

- Thickness of letters and numbers: 7 mm.

- Distance between letters and numbers: 19 mm. Particularly, the distance between the numbers and the number 1 is 35 mm.

* Specific position of the stamp on the license plate:

The police stamp is embossed at the position above the upper horizontal dash of the license plate, 5 mm from the top edge of the license plate.
