Militia Forces Enjoy Health Insurance and Social Insurance Like Military Officers

Recently, the National Assembly of the XIV term passed the Militia and Self-Defense Law 2019 on November 22, 2019.

Article 34 of the Militia and Self-Defense Law 2019 stipulates that the regular militia is entitled to the following policies when performing duties:

- To receive daily labor allowances and ensure meal allowances;

- To be entitled to policies when performing duties from 10 PM to 6 AM the next morning, on holidays, during heavy, hazardous, dangerous, or especially heavy, hazardous, dangerous work in accordance with labor laws;

- To receive additional daily labor allowances in cases where the duration of duty in the Militia and Self-Defense Force is extended;

- To receive a one-time allowance upon being recognized for completing military service obligations during peacetime;

- To receive social insurance benefits and health insurance like non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army in active service;

- To be ensured food and accommodation.

Thus, this article is promulgated to enhance operational efficiency, meet assigned tasks, and be more suitable to the realities of various regions nationwide.

Moreover, except for social insurance benefits and health insurance, the local militia, mobile militia, anti-aircraft militia, artillery militia, reconnaissance militia, communication militia, engineering militia, chemical defense militia, medical militia, and maritime militia are also entitled to the above policies. Particularly, maritime militia performing tasks in protecting islands and maritime areas are entitled to additional daily labor allowances, meal allowances; and in the case of captains and chief engineers, are entitled to responsibility allowances calculated based on actual days of operation at sea.

For self-defense forces performing duties, they are entitled to their full salaries, welfare, allowances, per diem, and policies according to the law; for maritime self-defense forces performing tasks in protecting islands and maritime areas, they are entitled to additional salaries, grades, and meal allowances calculated based on actual days of operation at sea.

Note that the level which decides the militia and self-defense forces to perform duties is responsible for ensuring their policies. The Government of Vietnam stipulates the assurance levels for policies for each component of the militia and self-defense forces.
