Health and safety conditions in the organization of boat racing competitions in Vietnam.

Recently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism issued Circular 22/2014/TT-BVHTTDL stipulating several contents on the management of organizing rowing, canoe racing, and traditional boat racing competitions. It includes regulations on health and safety conditions in the organization of boat racing competitions in Vietnam.

Health and safety conditions in the organization of boat racing competitions in Vietnam (Internet image) 

Article 7 Circular 22/2014/TT-BVHTTDL stipulates the medical and safety conditions in Vietnam as follows:

  1. Athletes participating in the competition must have a certificate of physical fitness for sports competition issued by a licensed medical facility and must meet the conditions specified in Circular No. 14/2013/TT-BYT dated May 6, 2013, by the Ministry of Health, guiding health examinations within 60 days before the opening date of the competition.

  2. There must be at least 01 ambulance, 01 doctor, and 03 nurses; with enough medicine and equipment for initial first aid.

  3. There must be at least 02 specialized rescue boats, each boat having at least 05 life buoys and 02 rescue personnel (excluding the boat driver).

  4. Members of the Organizing Committee, referees, and staff serving the competition must wear life jackets when entering the water.

  5. Motorboat drivers must meet the conditions specified by the Inland Waterway Traffic Law. Rescue personnel must have a rescue certificate issued by the Vietnam Boat Racing Federation or the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province/city under central authority.

  6. For mass sports competitions: athletes must wear life jackets when boarding the racing boat.

  7. It is strictly prohibited to organize competitions under adverse weather conditions that do not ensure the safety of the participants' lives and health.

More details can be found in Circular 22/2014/TT-BVHTTDL which comes into effect in Vietnam from February 01, 2015.
