Foreigners Practicing Architecture in Vietnam: What Conditions Must Be Met?

Article 31 Law on Architecture 2019 stipulates that foreign nationals are allowed to practice architecture in Vietnam when meeting the following conditions:

a) Possess an architectural practice certificate in Vietnam or a valid architectural practice certificate issued by a competent authority or organization of a foreign country that is recognized and converted by Vietnam;

b) Comply with Vietnamese laws and the code of professional conduct for practicing architects in Vietnam.

Besides, the recognition and conversion of architectural practice certificates are prescribed by the Law on Architecture 2019 as follows:

- Foreign nationals who have a valid architectural practice certificate issued by a competent authority or organization of a foreign country and participate in architectural services in Vietnam for less than 6 months shall carry out the procedure for recognition of the architectural practice certificate; for 6 months or more, they shall carry out the procedure for conversion of the architectural practice certificate at the specialized architectural agency under the Provincial People's Committee;- The recognition and conversion of architectural practice certificates between Vietnam and other countries and territories shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of international agreements or treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a member.

The Government of Vietnam details the method for determining the period of participation in architectural services in Vietnam; stipulates the dossiers, procedures, and process for recognization and conversion of architectural practice certificates for foreign nationals practicing architecture in Vietnam.
