Deadline for payment and issuance of household-based health insurance cards in Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance issued Official Dispatch 1205/BHXH-QLT guiding the deadline for payment and issuance of household-based health insurance cards as follows:

No. Issue Illustrative Example
1 For individuals participating in health insurance for the first time or with an interruption of more than 03 months who now continue to participate in household-based health insurance, the participant must pay the agent on working days within the month, and the health insurance card will be valid after 1 month (30 days) from the payment date. The participant pays on June 5, 2017, then the health insurance card will be valid from July 5, 2017.
2 For those who have previously participated in health insurance or had an interruption of not more than 03 months (including those who previously participated in mandatory health insurance) and now continue to participate in household-based health insurance (renew health insurance card):
2.1 The participant is responsible for paying the agent no later than 10 days (or late within 10 days) before the card expires so that the renewed health insurance card will be valid immediately after the previous card expires. A participant with an health insurance card valid until June 30, 2017, must pay to renew the card by June 20, 2017 (or late payment from June 21 – 30, 2017) and the renewed health insurance card will be valid from July 1, 2017.
2.2 If the participant pays the agent after the card expires but no more than 3 months, the health insurance card will be valid from the payment date. A participant with an health insurance card valid until June 30, 2017, pays for renewal from July 1 to July 5, 2017, then the renewed health insurance card will be valid from July 5, 2017.
Note: If late payment causes a delay in card issuance, the participant will be fully responsible for any medical examination and treatment costs incurred while waiting to receive the health insurance card.

Refer to additional guidance in Official Dispatch 1205/BHXH-QLT dated June 15, 2017.
