This content has been stipulated in Circular 05/2017/TT-BKHDT issued by the Ministry of Planning and Investment on November 30, 2017, regarding the statistical indicator system of the Planning, Investment, and Statistics sectors.
Circular 05 stipulates that the sex ratio of the population is determined by the number of males per 100 females in a given population set.
Calculation formula:
Sex ratio of the population (%) = (Total number of males x 100) / Total number of females
At the same time, Circular 05 stipulates that the sex ratio of the population is primarily categorized into:
- Urban/rural;- Province/city directly under the Central Government.
The data source for the sex ratio, as specified by Circular 05, is obtained from:
- Midterm population and housing surveys;- General population and housing surveys;- Population change and family planning (PCFP) surveys.
Additionally, Circular 05 specifies that the unit responsible for data collection and compilation is the General Statistics Office, and the frequency of the sex ratio compilation is annually.
