Circular 15: Temporary Suspension from Studies during Master's Program Training

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT on the Regulation of Master’s Degree Training.

The Master’s Degree Training Regulations issued together with Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT provide for temporary suspension of study in the master’s degree training process as follows:

- Students are allowed to temporarily suspend their studies and retain the results they have obtained in the following cases: being drafted into armed forces or performing international duties; illness, accidents requiring long-term treatment, or maternity leave according to regulations with certification from a competent medical authority. For other cases, the training institution only permits temporary suspension to students who have completed at least one semester at the institution, have an average accumulated GPA of 5.5 or higher on a 10-point scale or equivalent, and are not under disciplinary action.- The period of temporary suspension for those drafted into armed forces or performing international duties is the duration stated in the decision of the competent authority and is not counted towards the total time of study, which must not exceed 2 years.- The period of temporary suspension for other cases is the necessary time according to the student's needs and aspirations but the maximum duration for completing the training program must comply and not exceed 2 years.- The head of the training institution shall stipulate the specific procedures for leave applications, leave approval authority, and the procedures for reintegrating students into the study program after the suspension period.
