Requirements for Importing Radioactive Sources
According to Article 12 of Decree 142/2020/ND-CP (Effective from February 1, 2021), the importation of radioactive sources must ensure:
- Safety and security assurance
- Meet the conditions specified at point a, clause 2, Article 5 of this Decree;
To be specific:
For radiation workers
+ The effective dose does not exceed 20 mSv/year (averaged over 5 consecutive years) and does not exceed 50 mSv in any single year within this period;
+ The equivalent dose for the lens of the eye does not exceed 20 mSv/year (averaged over 5 consecutive years) and does not exceed 50 mSv in any single year within this period;
+ The equivalent dose for the skin does not exceed 500 mSv/year according to specific types of radiation work.
For the public
+ The effective dose does not exceed 1 mSv/year (averaged over 5 consecutive years) and does not exceed 5 mSv in any single year within this period;
+ The equivalent dose for the lens of the eye does not exceed 15 mSv/year;
+ The equivalent dose for the skin does not exceed 50 mSv/year for the public according to specific irradiation situations.
- There must be a separate place to temporarily store the radioactive source until it is put into use or handed over to another organization or individual;
- Ensure the security of radioactive sources in accordance with Appendix 1 of this Decree.
- In the case of importing sealed radioactive sources, there must be a commitment to return the source to the manufacturer when it is no longer needed, or ensure financial obligations for the handling and storage of used radioactive sources.
