Project on Road Bridges: At What Length Is an Environmental Impact Assessment Report Required?
Clause 1, Article 18 of the Law on Environmental Protection 2014 stipulates that entities required to conduct environmental impact assessment include:
- Projects under the decision-making authority on investment policy of the National Assembly, the Government of Vietnam, and the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam;
- Projects that use land within nature reserves, national parks, historical and cultural sites, world heritage sites, biosphere reserves, and recognized scenic spots;
- Projects with the potential to negatively impact the environment.
According to Appendix II of the List of projects requiring an environmental impact assessment report issued together with Decree 40/2019/ND-CP, investment projects for the construction of road bridges and railway bridges with a length of 500 meters or more (excluding the approach roads) must prepare an environmental impact assessment report.
Therefore, road bridge construction projects with a length of 500 meters or more (excluding the approach roads) must prepare an environmental impact assessment report.
