What is the structure of a social argumentative essay in Vietnam?

The structure of a social argumentative essay includes three main parts: Introduction (introducing the issue and perspective), Body (analyzing and proving the arguments), and Conclusion (summarizing and reaffirming the perspective).

The structure of the social argumentative essay is taught in the 12th-grade Literature curriculum.

12th-grade students can refer to the following structure of the social argumentative essay:

Structure of a Social Argumentative Essay

1. Introduction (About 1/4 of the essay)

The introduction serves to present the issue to be discussed and to outline the content of the essay. This part should be engaging, possibly starting with a question, a fresh approach, or stating a judgment or event related to the topic under discussion.

Presenting the Issue: Discuss the topic to be argued, which can be outlined simply or through a specific situation.

Expressing Opinion: Briefly introduce the writer's perspective on this issue.

Example Introduction: If the essay discusses "Success is a ladder," the introduction could start with the question "Is success the final destination, or is it a process with many challenges?" Then, the writer would assert that success is precisely the process of overcoming difficult steps.

2. Body (About 2/3 of the essay)

The body is the most important part, focusing on analyzing, proving, and presenting arguments and evidence to clarify the points made in the introduction.

Arguments: Present the main ideas of the essay. Each argument should be developed into a paragraph, which could be an argument, reasoning, evidence, or example.

Analysis and Proof: After presenting the arguments, it should be clearly analyzed using reasoning, real evidence, or historical events to illustrate one's opinions.

Linking Between Paragraphs: The arguments in the body need to be closely linked, ensuring coherence and logic.

Example Body:

Argument 1: Success is a long and arduous process. Prove through examples of famous people, leaders, or those who have succeeded through perseverance.

Argument 2: Each step in the journey to success has its value. Each step is a challenge that helps one grow.

Argument 3: Success is a combination of many factors such as personal effort, the help of others, and environmental conditions.

3. Conclusion (About 1/4 of the essay)

The conclusion's task is to summarize the discussed issue, draw a conclusion, or reaffirm the standpoint. The conclusion may also make a call to action or provoke readers to think further about the issue.

Summarize the Issue: Remind of the main arguments mentioned in the body.

Reaffirm Standpoint: Draw a firm conclusion about the argued issue.

Call to Action or Reflection: It could be a call to action, encouraging readers to change perceptions or take action related to the discussed issue.

Example Conclusion: "Thus, success is not a single destination but a whole process with challenges, difficulties, and relentless perseverance. Each step in that journey is an important rung leading to success."
