Letter from the Ocean to Humans

Dear Humans – the children I love dearly,

I am the ocean, the breath of the planet, the green symphony nurturing life since its inception. I have embraced countless human generations, supported ships on their journeys, and nurtured schools of fish and vibrant coral reefs. But today, I write this letter with a heavy heart.

Can you hear the sound of my waves crashing on the shores? It is not the joyful sound of peaceful days, but the cry for help of a dying entity. I am dying, day by day.

My waters are no longer clear but tinged with oil spills, chemicals, and plastic waste. The creatures I once embraced – dolphins, sea turtles, corals – are trapped in the invisible nets humans created. I am suffocating under millions of tons of floating debris, by the noise breaking the deep silence of my core.

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself: what if one day I stopped waving, if I no longer had the breath to regulate the climate, if the last fish left my bosom… what would happen to you?

But I do not write this letter to blame you. I know in you there still lies love for me. I know you still have the opportunity to correct your mistakes. Therefore, I beg you – do not let me die!

Start with the smallest acts: do not throw garbage into the sea, do not let plastic become the "final meal" for marine creatures. Minimize the use of chemicals, conserve water, and protect the mangrove forests along the coast – for they are the silent warriors helping me revive.

If you have power, use it to make policies to protect me. If you have a voice, use it to awaken those who do not understand the pain I am enduring. And if you are just an ordinary individual, as long as you love me, as long as you take action – even the slightest action – I will be immensely grateful.

Oh humans, I do not need your pity, I just need you to understand:

When you protect me, you are essentially protecting yourself.

Letter from the Ocean to Humanity

Dear Humanity,

I am the ocean – the refuge, the nurturer, and the sustainer of life on Earth. I am proud to have provided abundant food sources, created splendid landscapes, and regulated the climate to keep this planet lush and green. But lately, I feel weary and severely harmed.

Do you know? I am being suffocated by plastic waste. My azure waves are now flooded with plastic bags, bottles, and objects that do not belong to me. The creatures I nurture – fish, turtles, whales – are dying from ingesting small plastic fragments. I am suffocating from oil spills, toxic chemicals, and climate change caused by human negligence.

I do not blame you, but I hope you change. Reduce your plastic usage, sort your waste properly, protect coral reefs, and limit the over-exploitation of my resources. If you love me, treat me with respect, for I am your very life.

Letter to a Child Who Loves the Sea

Dear Little Hai An,

I am the ocean – where you often come to play with your family during summer days. Do you remember building sandcastles on the shore? Do you recall the waves lapping and the fish swimming in the clear blue water?

But An, I am very sad recently. Many children do not know that when they throw garbage into the sea, turtles, dolphins, and even corals can get hurt. Many children do not understand that using too much plastic is causing my sea to overflow with waste.

I believe you will help me. Remind your parents and friends to keep the beach clean, save water, and not use too much plastic, okay? If possible, plant a tree near your house, as it helps filter the air, reduce pollution, and make me healthier!

I hope to see you again one day when the sea will be clearer, whales will dance on the waves, and little shells will sparkle in the sunlight.

Dear Leaders,

I write this letter to plead with you, those who hold great power and responsibility, to act on my behalf. Please reduce industrial emissions, implement policies to protect the marine environment, limit excessive fishing, and prevent chemical discharge into my depths.

Remember, I am not just a vast body of water; I am the lungs of the Earth, providing life to millions. If I become depleted and polluted, then your future generations will also suffer grave consequences.

Please do not let my cries for help go unheard.
