What are the rules of the IOE exam for 3rd-grade students in the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam?
Participants: Students from grade 3 to grade 12 nationwide who have access to the Internet and wish to participate in the EInternet Olympiads of English at www.ioe.vn.
Each school year includes 4 official Olympic rounds for primary and lower secondary levels; 3 official Olympic rounds for upper secondary level and practice rounds for students.
The practice rounds are updated weekly by the national organizing committee on the website from August 20 every year.
Official Olympic rounds at the primary and lower secondary levels:
+ The school-level round is organized separately after the 15th practice round.
+ The district-level round is organized separately after the 20th practice round. + The provincial/city-level round is organized separately after the 25primary practice round.
+ The national-level round is organized separately after the 30th practice round.
Official Olympic rounds at the upper secondary level:
+ The school-level round is organized separately after the 20th practice round.
+ The provincial/city-level round is organized separately after the 25primary practice round.
+ The national-level round is organized separately after the 30th practice round.

According to Decision 5572/QD-BGDDT of 2014 Download here, the IOE exam is the EInternet Olympiads of English for general education students organized from the 2014-2015 school year.
Participants: Students from grade 3 to grade 12 nationwide who have access to the Internet and wish to participate in the EInternet Olympiads of English at www.ioe.vn.
Thus, 3rd-grade students can participate in the IOE exam in the 2024-2025 school year.
What is the age of students entering 3rd grade in Vietnam?
According to Article 28 of the Education Law 2019, the age of students entering 3rd grade is regulated as follows:
Educational levels and entry ages
1. Educational levels and age groups of general education are regulated as follows:
a) Primary education lasts for 05 school years, from the first to the fifth grade. The entry age for the first grade is 06;
b) Lower secondary education lasts for 04 school years, from the sixth to the ninth grade. Students must complete the primary educational programme before entering the sixth grade. The entry age for the sixth grade is 11;
c) Upper secondary education lasts for 03 school years, from the tenth to the twelfth grade. Students must complete the lower secondary educational programme before entering the tenth grade. The entry age for the tenth grade is 15;

Thus, according to the above regulations, the age of students entering 3rd grade will be 8. This regulation does not apply to cases of skipping grades or entering at an age older than prescribed.
What are the educational objectives for 3rd-grade students in Vietnam?
According to Article 31 of the Education Law 2019, the requirements for the educational objectives for 3rd-grade students are as follows:
- Reflect the objectives of general education;
-Concretize the requirements on the outcomes of students’ quality and capacity after each educational level and on the educational contents compulsory to all students throughout the country;
- Concretize the requirements on the methods and forms of organizing educational activities and on the evaluation of educational outcomes for subjects of each class and educational level of general education.
- Be consistent throughout the country and implemented flexibly, suitable with specific conditions of localities and institutions of general education;
- Be open to feedbacks from organisations and individuals and undergo a pilot implementation before promulgation; be publicly announced after promulgation.
