Guidance on Physical Education, Sports Activities, and School Health Tasks for the 2024-2025 Academic Year in Vietnam

On August 27, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Official Dispatch 4719/BGDDT-GDTC in 2024 guiding the implementation of tasks in physical education, sports activities, and school health for the academic year 2024-2025.

There are 05 common tasks for physical education, sports activities, and school health academic year 2024-2025 as follows:

(1) Continue innovating and improving the quality of physical education and sports activities for students, especially focusing on combining reasonable nutrition policies and appropriate forms of exercise for each educational level and locality to ensure comprehensive development of morality, intellect, physique, and aesthetics.

(2) Direct and fully implement the contents and requirements of safe schools and accident and injury prevention in educational institutions. Strengthen coordination between family, school, and society to organize the nurturing, care, training, and management of preschool children, students (HSSV) both inside and outside of school to ensure safety and effectiveness; focus on the prevention of school health issues, accident prevention, and mental health care.

(3) Continue to maintain, stabilize, and develop the student sports competition system linked with the content of the Physical Education subject in the 2018 General Education Program; Physical Education programs in university-level training programs, developing swimming, and encouraging ethnic sports.

(4) Promote the application of information technology, digital transformation (building and effectively exploiting digital learning resources, electronic lessons...) in physical education, sports activities; complete the database on school health and criteria for building safe, friendly, and happy schools. Conduct inspections, examinations, and supervision according to authority.

(5) Organize summaries and evaluations of Schemes and programs on physical education and school health for the period 2021-2025; continue proposing and advising on the construction in the next phase.

Tasks and Solutions for School Health Work in the Academic Year 2024-2025 in Vietnam

Based on Section 2, Part B of Official Dispatch 4719/BGDDT-GDTC in 2024 Download, the tasks and solutions for school health work in the academic year 2024-2025 include:

(1) Implement the directive documents and guidelines of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Training regarding disease prevention and control. Closely coordinate with the grassroots health system to organize communication and education activities to raise awareness, knowledge, and skills for disease prevention and health protection for students (HSSV).

(2) Direct the continued implementation and summary of the programs and Schemes of the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam on school health work: The School Health Program for the period 2021-2025; the School Health Program in preschool and general education institutions linked with grassroots health for the period 2021-2025;

The Scheme on ensuring reasonable nutrition and increasing physical activity for children, students (HSSV) to improve health and prevent cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and bronchial asthma for the period 2018-2025.

(3) Strengthen communication, health education, population work in the new situation, gender education, reproductive health; preventing the harmful effects of tobacco (especially the harm of electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco...), alcohol for students (HSSV).

Closely coordinate with the Social Insurance agencies at all levels to communicate, guide, and mobilize the implementation of compulsory health insurance for students (HSSV); focus on ensuring the rights to initial healthcare for students (HSSV) in schools and support disadvantaged students to participate in health insurance.

(4) Organize training to improve professional capacity and expertise for professional and part-time school health staff as stipulated; organize communication to raise awareness about school health work, disease prevention, and non-communicable diseases for staff, lecturers, and students (HSSV).

How to Organize the Implementation of Tasks in Physical Education, Sports Activities, and School Health for the Academic Year 2024-2025 in Vietnam

Based on Part C of Official Dispatch 4719/BGDDT-GDTC in 2024 Download, the organization of the implementation of tasks in physical education, sports activities, and school health for the academic year 2024-2025 is as follows:

(1) The Departments of Education and Training, universities, academies, colleges of education, and teacher colleges establish plans to implement the tasks of physical education, sports activities, and school health for the academic year 2024-2025; convey, and implement them to management staff, teachers, learners, and related units for execution.

(2) Reporting regime

- Regularly update, and exploit information related to legal documents, directive documents, news articles on the work of physical education, sports activities, and school health on the electronic portal of the Ministry of Education and Training.

- Strictly implement the reporting of implementation results in physical education, sports activities, and school health for the academic year 2024-2025 before June 30, 2025; submit ad-hoc reports when requested and provide current local information to the Ministry of Education and Training to promptly coordinate and handle issues.
