What are the general objectives of the 2nd-grade Vietnamese language curriculum?

According to Section 3 of the General Education Program for Literature issued under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the general objectives of the 2nd-grade Vietnamese language curriculum are as follows:

- To form and develop key traits in students such as patriotism, compassion, diligence, honesty, and responsibility; to nurture their souls, shape their personalities, and develop their individuality.

To help students explore themselves and the world around them, to understand humanity, to have a rich emotional life, and to develop humanistic perspectives and behavior; to engender a love for the Vietnamese language and literature; to instill awareness of national origin and cultural identity, contributing to the preservation and development of Vietnamese cultural values; to embrace global cultural essences and foster international integration skills.

- To assist students in developing general competencies: autonomy and self-learning, communication and collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity.

Specifically, the Literature subject (Vietnamese language) assists students in developing language proficiency and literary competence: practicing skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening; acquiring foundational general knowledge about the Vietnamese language and literature, fostering symbolic and logical thinking, contributing to the formation of basic cultural knowledge; creating coherent texts; and evaluating literary texts in particular, communicative products and aesthetic values in general life.

How does the 2nd-grade Vietnamese language curriculum assist the development of objectives of the subject at the primary level?

Under Section 3 of the General Education Program for Literature issued under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the 2nd-grade Vietnamese language curriculum assists the development of objectives of the subject at the primary level as follows:

- It helps students form and develop essential traits with specific manifestations: love for nature, family, and homeland; awareness of their origins; appreciation for beauty and goodness and healthy emotional development; interest in learning, love for work; honesty, straightforwardness in learning and life; awareness of responsibilities to oneself, family, society, and the surrounding environment.

- It assists students in initially forming general competencies, developing language skills in all areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening at a basic level: reading correctly and fluently; understanding the content and main information of texts; making connections and comparisons beyond texts; writing correctly according to spelling and grammar rules; composing some short sentences, paragraphs, and essays (mainly narrative and descriptive essays); expressing ideas clearly; listening and understanding the speaker’s opinions.

It develops literary competence with the requirement to differentiate between poetry and stories, know how to read poetry and stories; recognize the beauty of artistic language; have imagination, and understanding, and be moved by the beauty and goodness of people and the world around, as expressed in literary texts.
