- Recognize and analyze the effects of some formal elements and artistic devices belonging to each literary genre (the combination of the narrator's voice and the character's voice, point of view, conflict, poetic rules, structure, vocabulary, lyrical emotional flow; rhetorical devices such as repetition, wordplay, sarcasm, antithesis).

- Recognize some general features of Vietnamese literary history; understand the impact of literature on personal life.
