According to the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives for teaching the 2nd-grade Vietnamese Language subject are as follows:
- Help students form and develop essential qualities with specific expressions: love for nature, family, and homeland; awareness of origin; appreciation of beauty and goodness and having healthy emotions; being interested in learning, eager to work; being honest and straightforward in study and life; having a sense of responsibility towards themselves, their family, society, and the surrounding environment.
- Help students initially form common capacities, developing language ability in all skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening at a basic level: reading correctly and fluently; understand the content and main information of the text; relating and comparing outside the text; write correct spelling and grammar; write some sentences, short paragraphs, essays (mainly narrative and descriptive essays); articulate clearly; understand spoken opinions.
Develop literary competence with the requirement to distinguish poetry and stories, know how to read poetry and stories; recognize the beauty of artistic language; have imagination, understand, and be moved by the beauty and goodness of humans and the world as expressed in literary texts.
What are the required outcomes regarding language competencies for 2nd-grade students in Vietnam?
Under the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the required outcomes regarding language competencies for 2nd-grade students in Vietnam are as follows:
- Read correctly, fluently, and expressively; understand the main content of the text, mainly explicit content; initially understand implicit content such as the theme and lessons drawn from the read text.
- Reading requirements include technical reading skills and reading comprehension skills, focusing on both correct reading speed and simple content comprehension of the text.
- Write correct spelling, vocabulary, and grammar; write some sentences and short essays.
- Be able to write texts retelling stories read, events witnessed or participated in, self-imagined stories; describe familiar objects and phenomena; introduce objects and activities close to students' lives.
Write passages expressing students' emotions and thoughts when reading a story, a poem, or when witnessing an event that evokes many emotions; give opinions on a simple issue in study and life; write some types of texts such as autobiography, messages, invitations, schedules, applications,...; initially know how to write according to the process; the essay should have three parts (introduction, body, conclusion).
- Present ideas and emotions clearly; initially know how to use appropriate gestures and expressions when speaking; narrate a read or heard story clearly; know how to share, and exchange emotions, attitudes, and thoughts regarding discussed issues; know how to explain a simple object or process.
- Listen with a suitable attitude and grasp the basic content; recognize the speaker's emotions; know how to respond to what was heard.
