Seriously Implementing Case Handling, Avoiding Wrongful Conviction

This is one of the tasks outlined in the Program for the implementation of Resolution 96/2015/QH13 on strengthening the prevention and combat of wrongful convictions and ensuring compensation for victims in criminal proceedings, promulgated together with Decision 1681/QD-TTg.

Aiming to ensure that no crime goes unpunished and no wrongful conviction occurs, the following tasks need to be carried out:

- Enhance the capability to promptly detect and investigate various types of crimes;- Urgently resolve cases that have exceeded the prescribed legal time limit, conclusively handle prolonged cases and those of public interest; promptly clear the names of and compensate wrongfully accused individuals;- Strictly enforce judicial authority in accordance with the law;- Effectively categorize and handle cases; rectify unlawful suspension of investigations or cases to prevent wrongful convictions or letting criminals go unpunished;- Timely address complaints and denunciations;- Strengthen management, training, and development of the staff;- Perfect the legal documents on criminal and criminal procedure law.

Decision 1681/QD-TTg takes effect from August 30, 2016.
