From October 05, teachers are not allowed to assign extra homework to 1st-grade students in Vietnam

Below is the notable content of Official Dispatch 3977/BGDDT-GDTH strengthening the direction of implementing the 2018 general education program at the primary level in Vietnam.

To continue supporting schools and teachers in effectively implementing the new general education programs and textbooks, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam requests the Departments of Education and Training of Vietnam to execute the following:

- Direct schools to develop educational plans for implementing the Grade 1 curriculum in a way that distributes the content and teaching time reasonably among subjects and educational activities to prevent overload. This approach should meet the requirements of the newly developed open curriculum; helping students complete their learning tasks in the classroom and not assigning additional homework;

- Ensure the timetable reasonably balances the subjects and educational activities, appropriately allocates time and scheduling within the school day and week, suitable to the psychological and physiological development stages of primary students, particularly Grade 1 students;

- Direct schools to continue innovating teaching methods to meet the requirements of developing learners' qualities and capabilities;
