Distinguishing milk products according to QCVN 5-1:2017/BYT in Vietnam

From March 01, 2018, liquid milk products will be distinguished according to QCVN 5-1:2017/BYT issued together with Circular 03/2017/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam.

No. Milk Products Distinction
1 Fresh Milk Products
1.1 Pasteurized/Sterilized Whole Fresh Milk The product is processed entirely from raw fresh milk, without adding or removing any components of the milk and without adding any other ingredients, and has been pasteurized/sterilized.
1.2 Pasteurized/Sterilized Skimmed Whole Fresh Milk The product is processed entirely from raw fresh milk, with the removal of milk fat, without adding or removing any other components of the milk and without adding any other ingredients, and has been pasteurized/sterilized.
1.3 Pasteurized/Sterilized Fresh Milk The product is mainly processed from raw fresh milk (raw fresh milk constitutes at least 90% by weight of the final product).


This product may contain additional ingredients but not intended to replace milk components, and has been pasteurized/sterilized.
1.4 Pasteurized/Sterilized Skimmed Fresh Milk The product is mainly processed from raw fresh milk with milk fat removed (raw fresh milk with removed milk fat constitutes at least 90% by weight of the final product).


This product may contain additional ingredients but not intended to replace milk components, and has been pasteurized/sterilized.
2 Reconstituted Pasteurized/Sterilized Milk The liquid product obtained by adding the necessary amount of water to milk powder or concentrated milk to re-establish the appropriate ratio of water and dry matter of milk or obtained by combining milk fat and non-fat milk solids, with the possibility of adding water to achieve the appropriate milk composition.


This product may contain additional ingredients but not intended to replace milk components, and has been pasteurized/sterilized. The reconstituted milk component accounts for at least 90% by weight of the final product.
3 Pasteurized/Sterilized Mixed Milk The product is processed from a mixture of raw fresh milk, dairy products, or milk components.


This product may contain additional ingredients but not intended to replace milk components, and has been pasteurized/sterilized. The mixed milk component accounts for at least 90% by weight of the final product.
4 Concentrated Milk and Sweetened Condensed Milk Products
4.1 Concentrated Milk The product obtained by removing part of the water from raw fresh milk using heat or any other method. The fat and protein content of the milk may be adjusted by adding or removing milk components without changing the ratio between whey protein and casein of the milk.


This product may contain additional ingredients but not intended to replace milk components.
4.2 Sweetened Condensed Milk The product obtained by removing part of the water from raw fresh milk or adding water to milk powder, with added sugar. The fat and protein content of the milk may be adjusted by adding or removing milk components without changing the ratio between whey protein and casein of the milk.


This product may contain additional ingredients but not intended to replace milk components.
4.3 Concentrated Skimmed Milk with Added Vegetable Fat The product is processed by combining skimmed milk with water or removing part of the water, with added vegetable fat.

4.4 Sweetened Condensed Skimmed Milk with Added Vegetable Fat The product is processed by combining skimmed milk with water or removing part of the water, with added sugar and vegetable fat.


This product may contain additional ingredients but not intended to replace milk components.

QCVN 5-1:2017/BYT replaces QCVN 5-1:2010/BYT (issued together with Circular 30/2010/TT-BYT) in Vietnam.
