To ensure a balance between supply and demand for essential goods and to stabilize the market at the end of 2020 and during the Lunar New Year of 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Directive 15/CT-BCT, requiring a reduction in the price of pork for the populace.

In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic affected the entire domestic and global economy. Production and business activities were disrupted, significantly impacting people's income and livelihood. Vietnam is one of the countries that has controlled the pandemic well, always ensuring the supply of essential goods for the people, even during the peak of the pandemic, when the entire society was under lockdown.

At the same time, in the current situation, when the Covid-19 pandemic is not yet fully controlled, and the political and trade relations between major countries are still complicated, coupled with unstable weather conditions (continuous floods in central provinces), the Covid-19 pandemic and African Swine Fever still pose a risk of re-emergence, potentially having adverse effects on production, business activities, and people's livelihood. The global and domestic commodity markets will continue to experience unpredictable changes.

Therefore, to ensure the balance of supply and demand for essential commodities, stabilize the goods market at the end of 2020 and during Tet Nguyen Dan 2021, and create a premise to achieve the macroeconomic goals of 2021 set by the Government of Vietnam, in Directive 15/CT-BCT, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested the implementation of the following tasks:

- Develop plans to ensure the supply of pork for the market and reduce the retail price correspondingly for consumers. If necessary, consider plans to import livestock meat products from abroad to stabilize the market at the end of the year and during Tet Nguyen Dan 2021.- Develop or propose plans to ensure the supply and stabilize the market for essential agricultural and food products in general, and pork in particular, during the end of the year and Tet Nguyen Dan 2021, ensuring production follows the proper planning and recommendations of relevant ministries and central authorities, avoiding local surpluses or shortages that negatively affect the domestic goods market in general and the food market in particular, and proactively plan for imports if necessary.- Develop plans to ensure the supply of pork for the market and reduce the retail price correspondingly for consumers. If necessary, consider plans to import livestock meat products from abroad to stabilize the market.- Intensify the implementation of the “Vietnamese People Prioritize Using Vietnamese Goods” campaign to support domestic production and promote the circulation of goods, combined with providing stabilized goods for the market during Tet Nguyen Dan 2021, especially in remote areas.- Organize sales trips to rural, remote, and mountainous areas, prepare well the stock of policy goods, support goods, essential consumer goods, and Tet Nguyen Dan 2021 goods to supply early and fully for people in rural, mountainous, remote, and island areas, and especially focus on providing goods for areas heavily affected by recent floods, ensuring adequate quantity, reasonable prices, and quality.

Thus, it can be seen that due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the entire economy and the continuing flood situation in the central provinces, making it difficult for people, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested a reduction in pork prices for people at the end of the year and Tet Nguyen Dan 2021, aiming to supply adequately for people in rural, mountainous, remote, and island areas, and especially those severely affected by flooding in the central provinces. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requests livestock enterprises to ensure the supply of pork for consumers amidst the signs of African Swine Fever re-emerging, and if necessary, will import pork from abroad to stabilize the market at the end of the year and during Tet Nguyen Dan 2021.
