Approval of the Law Amending and Supplementing the Law on the Representative Offices of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Abroad

Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Representative Offices of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Abroad was just passed by the National Assembly in the afternoon session of November 21, 2017, with 90.84% of the National Assembly deputies voting in favor.

On the afternoon of November 21, under the chairmanship of Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong, the National Assembly listened to Member of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Nguyen Van Giau present the Explanation, Reception, and Revision Report of the Draft Law Amending and Supplementing a Number of Articles of the Law on Representative Offices of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Abroad.

Subsequently, the National Assembly voted to pass Article 17, Article 26, and the full text of the Law Amending and Supplementing a Number of Articles of the Law on Representative Offices of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Abroad.

Regarding the amendment and supplementation of the regulations on the standards for ambassador appointments as stipulated in Article 17 on the standards for members of the representative office listed on page 2 of the draft law, the voting results were as follows:

- Number of National Assembly Deputies (NAD) participating in the vote: 444, accounting for 90.43% of the total number of National Assembly Deputies.- Number of NADs in favor: 443, accounting for 90.22%.- Number of NADs against: 1, accounting for 0.2%.- Number of NADs abstaining: 0.

Regarding the amendment and supplementation of Article 26 concerning policies for members of the representative office, their spouses, and minor children accompanying the members of the representative office as listed on pages 3 and 4 of the draft law, the voting results were as follows:

- Number of NADs participating in the vote: 444, accounting for 90.43% of the total number of National Assembly Deputies.- Number of NADs in favor: 440, accounting for 89.61%.- Number of NADs against: 4, accounting for 0.81%.- Number of NADs abstaining: 0.

The voting results for the entire draft law were as follows:

- Number of NADs participating in the vote: 446, accounting for 90.84% of the total number of National Assembly Deputies.- Number of NADs in favor: 446, accounting for 90.84%.- Number of NADs against: 0.- Number of NADs abstaining: 0.

Thus, the vast majority of National Assembly Deputies agreed to pass the Law Amending and Supplementing a Number of Articles of the Law on Representative Offices of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Abroad.
