What are the functions and duties of the Sustainable Development Steering Committee of the Sector?

At present, the Sustainable Development Steering Committee of the sector has been established in Ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and agencies under the Government of Vietnam; the Ministers of Ministries, the Heads of ministerial-level agencies, and agencies under the Government of Vietnam are to decide on the establishment of the sector/field-specific Sustainable Development Steering Committee.

According to Article 8 of Circular 02/2013/TT-BKHDT, the Sustainable Development Steering Committee of the sector has the following tasks to advise and assist the Ministers of Ministries, the Heads of ministerial-level agencies, and agencies under the Government of Vietnam in directing the execution of the following tasks:

- Develop action programs/plans for the sector to implement the Vietnam Sustainable Development Strategy for the period 2011 - 2020;- Integrate the contents of the Vietnam Sustainable Development Strategy for the period 2011 - 2020 in the policy-making process; develop and execute strategies, plans, and development plans of the sector/field under management;- Develop sustainable development indicators suitable to the conditions and development characteristics of their Ministry and sector based on national sustainable development goals and monitoring and evaluation indicators; organize monitoring and evaluation of the sustainable development goals and indicators within their sector/field; develop and implement models of sectoral sustainable development;- Organize propaganda, education to raise awareness among officials and public employees about sustainable development and the contents of the Vietnam Sustainable Development Strategy for the period 2011 - 2020;- Annually report on the implementation of the Vietnam Sustainable Development Strategy for the period 2011 - 2020, the implementation status of sectoral/field-specific sustainable development indicators, and send these reports to the Ministry of Planning and Investment for compilation and reporting to the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.
