Vietnam: Failure to wear life jacket while traveling on the river shall be fined severely

This content is mentioned in Decree No. 132/2015/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government stipulating penalties for administrative violations in inland waterway traffic.

According to Clause 2 Article 27 of Decree No. 132/2015/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government, “a fine ranging from VND 100.000 to VND 200.000 shall be imposed for failure to wear life jacket or equip personal flotation device in case of participation in traffic on passenger transportation vehicles across rivers”.

Moreover, Decree No. 132/2015/ND-CP also stipulates that a fine of from VND 200.000 to VND 500.000 shall be imposed for commission of one of the following violations:

- Bringing luggage of goods banned by law in transport together with passengers;

- Causing disorder, unsafe on vehicles.

Moreover, a fine ranging from VND 50.000 to VND 100.000 shall be imposed for failure to observe safety internal rules on the vessels or abide by the guidance of the crewmembers, the operators.

Note: The prescriptive period for handling of administrative violation against regulations on inland waterway navigation shall be 01 year.

Relevant provisions can be found in Decree No. 132/2015/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government, which takes effect from July 01, 2016.
