The National Defense Law 2018 was passed by the XIV National Assembly, 5th session on June 08, 2018, and officially came into effect on January 01, 2019.
The law has specified particular acts that will be prohibited in the field of national defense to enforce stricter regulations compared to the National Defense Law 2005, in particular the following six acts:
Additionally, the rights and obligations of citizens have been further expanded compared to the National Defense Law 2005, including the following rights and obligations:
- Protecting the Nation is a sacred obligation and noble right of citizens;- Citizens are obliged to be loyal to the Nation; must fulfill military service obligations; are obligated to participate in the Militia, self-defense forces, building an all-people national defense; comply with the measures of the State and the competent authorities in performing national defense duties according to this Law and other relevant legal provisions;- Citizens are entitled to be informed and propagate the guidelines and viewpoints of the Communist Party, and the policies and laws of the State on national defense; to be educated about national defense and security; to be equipped with civil defense knowledge and skills as prescribed by law;- Citizens serving in the people's armed forces or mobilized for national defense duty shall be entitled to policies as regulated by law;- Citizens are equal in performing national defense duties.
