The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 01/2016/TT-BTNMT on January 13, 2016, to specifically enumerate the requirements for the level of geological research.
The requirements for the level of geological research as stipulated in Circular 01 are as follows:
- The boundaries and shapes of ore bodies; the surface topography must be determined.- For soil and rock mines used as filling materials, the physical and mechanical properties and the construction soil indicators must be identified.
The demarcation of the volume for calculating reserves is based on exploratory works, exposed points measured, and geological descriptions. The boundary of the volume for calculating reserves of level 122 can be extrapolated, but the extrapolated area must not exceed 200 meters along the strike or length of the mineral body distribution and must not exceed 100 meters in the dip direction or the width of the mineral body. Additionally, the extrapolated area must have results from geological measurements that confirm the geological and mineral characteristics similar to the locations with controlling works.
In addition, Circular 01 also specifies the following feasibility study research requirements:
- The criteria for calculating reserves should be applied according to national technical standards or regulations, technical regulations, or according to the criteria (concentration, material composition of the mineral) in mines with similar geological and mining conditions that have been approved.- Preliminary selection of suitable technical mining solutions and usage directions has been carried out.
Based on comparisons with other mines being exploited under similar conditions, it must be proven that the exploitation is economically effective at the time of reserve evaluation.
See details in Circular 01/2016/TT-BTNMT which comes into effect from March 1, 2016.
