On October 28, 2014, the Ministry of Public Security issued Circular 52/2014/TT-BCA on the management, preservation, and maintenance of firefighting and prevention equipment.
Circular 52: Regular Maintenance and Upkeep of Engines of Motorized Firefighting Equipment (illustrative image)
Circular 52/2014/TT-BCA specifies the regular maintenance and upkeep of motorized firefighting equipment engines as follows:
- Clean the entire engine, fuel supply lines, air filters, high-pressure pumps, and injectors; drain water and debris from the gasoline filter and carburetor; for gasoline engines, check the ignition system, spark plugs, and tighten the wiring connections of the distributor; inspect the gasoline filter and carburetor, and clean them with a solvent;
- Check the fuel, oil, battery, and engine components; refill the fuel tank if it is low (the tank should always be full or at least 4/5 capacity);
- Check the levels of lubricating oil, engine coolant, windshield washer fluid, power steering fluid, clutch fluid, brake fluid, and hydraulic oil of specialized systems (if any);
- Check the battery and the fluid levels in its cells, and add distilled water if necessary; inspect and tighten the electrical connections and battery terminals; clean the exterior of the battery with warm water and wipe the electrical posts clean;
- Inspect the vacuum oil or the priming water reservoir of the vacuum pump; add vacuum oil if it is low;
- Turn on the ignition; observe the lights and gauges on the dashboard to ensure normal signals before starting the engine; if a warning light is on, resolve the issue before proceeding;
- Daily, run the engine of motorized equipment for 15 minutes;
- Run the engine at varying speeds (without accelerating too abruptly); monitor the readings of the oil pressure gauge, fuel pressure gauge, coolant temperature gauge, air pressure gauge, and battery charge indicators, and any other warning indicators. If there are unusual noises from the engine or warning signals on the gauges, stop the engine immediately and report to the technical department for inspection and repair.
