On September 14, 2018, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 09/2018/TT-BTNMT to stipulate the method for sampling imported glass to determine the mass ratio and impurities composition.
To be specific:
For the import shipment of loose glass scrap (not contained in containers)
- A representative sample is a sample randomly taken from 5 different locations of the imported glass scrap shipment (with relatively evenly spaced sample points to ensure representativeness, in one of the following shapes: rectangular, square, triangular pyramid, z-shape, etc.). The total weight of the representative sample is 10 kg. In case there is suspicion that the imported glass scrap shipment does not meet the requirements specified in Section 2 of this Standard, the inspecting authority decides to add representative samples of the shipment according to the sampling method specified in this section, but not more than 03 representative samples.
For the import shipment of glass scrap contained in containers
Circular 09 stipulates that the inspection of the quality of imported glass scrap is conducted based on the taking and analysis of representative samples. A representative sample includes one or several random samples mixed together, from which 10 kg are taken from the mixed sample to serve as the representative sample (weighing 10 kg).
- A random sample is a sample taken from 5 different locations in one selected container (with relatively evenly spaced sample points to ensure representativeness, in one of the following shapes: rectangular, square, triangular pyramid, z-shape, etc.). The weight of a random sample is 10 kg.- For an imported glass scrap shipment with fewer than 05 containers, one container is selected to take random samples which serve as the representative sample for the imported glass scrap shipment.- For an imported glass scrap shipment with 05 to less than 20 containers, two containers are selected to take random samples. The representative sample is the mixed sample of these two random samples.- For an imported glass scrap shipment with 20 or more containers, 10% of the containers are selected to take random samples (the number of random samples is rounded). If the number of random samples is less than 10, these samples are mixed together to form one representative sample. If the number of random samples is greater than 10, each 10 random samples are mixed together to form one representative sample; remaining odd-numbered samples (if any) are mixed together to form one representative sample. An imported glass scrap shipment may have one or several representative samples.
See details in Circular 09/2018/TT-BTNMT effective from October 29, 2018.
