Hospitals with Maternity Departments Must Implement the "Ten Conditions for Breastfeeding"

This is notable content stipulated in Circular 38/2016/TT-BYT, which prescribes several measures to promote breastfeeding at medical examination and treatment establishments.

The general hospitals with obstetrics and pediatrics departments; specialized hospitals for obstetrics, pediatrics, or obstetrics-pediatrics (hereinafter referred to as hospitals) are responsible for implementing the "Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding" as follows:

- Issue regulations on the implementation of the "Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding" at the medical examination and treatment facilities in common, easy-to-understand language and disseminated regularly to doctors and medical staff;- Organize training classes or integrate them into professional training classes for doctors and medical staff with the necessary skills in counseling and guiding mothers to breastfeed correctly, expressing milk, and storing breast milk;- Organize counseling and dissemination for all pregnant women visiting about the benefits of breastfeeding, early breastfeeding within the first hour, exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months, and extended breastfeeding until 24 months or longer;- Implement counseling and guidance for mothers to breastfeed early after birth according to Decision 4673/QD-BYT;- …
