On June 19, 2015, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam issued Circular 04/2015/TT-BVHTTDL stipulating the comprehensive statistical reporting regime applicable to management agencies of Culture, Family, and Sports in provinces and centrally affiliated cities in Vietnam.
Guidance and Explanation on How to Fill in the Report Form for the Quantity of Museums in Vietnam
Appendix 2 issued together with Circular 04/2015/TT-BVHTTDL provides guidance and explanation on how to record the museum quantity report form for the purpose of state management of museums in Vietnam. To be specific:
1. Content
Indicators reflect the number of museums to serve the state management of museums.
- Museum: A cultural institution with functions of collecting, preserving, researching, displaying, and introducing cultural heritage, material evidence of nature, humans, and the living environment of humans, for the purposes of serving the public's needs for research, learning, visiting, and cultural enjoyment.
- “Museum artifacts”: Physical products created by humans or nature throughout history, which hold historical, cultural, scientific, and aesthetic values, collected and preserved by museums, having undergone scientific and legal processing, for the purposes of museum activities.
- “Number of museum visitors”: The total number of visitors according to statistics from museums nationwide; each visitor may visit a museum multiple times or visit multiple museums.
2. Calculation Method and How to Record the Form
Scope of data collection: Activities of museums and cultural heritage management departments across the country.
Timing of data collection: Data calculated as of December 31 of the reporting year.
How to record the form:
- Record the total number of museums, then specify according to 5 types of museums, including: National museums; Specialized museums under ministries and central authorities, political organizations, political-social organizations at the central level; Specialized museums under units affiliated with ministries and central authorities, political organizations, political-social organizations at the central level; Provincial museums and Non-public museums.
- Record the actual number for the reporting year as of December 31 of the reporting year.
- Column 1: Total number of museums as of December 31;
- Column 2: National museums;
- Column 3: Specialized museums under ministries and equivalent agencies;
- Column 4: Specialized museums under units affiliated with ministries and equivalent agencies;
- Column 5: Provincial museums and equivalent agencies;
- Column 6: Non-public museums;
- Column 7: Number of museum artifacts as of December 31 of the reporting year;
- Column 8: Number of museum visitors as of December 31 of the reporting year;
