Detailed Solutions to Improve Energy Efficiency in the Steel Industry

Here is the important content stipulated in Circular 20/2016/TT-BCT regulating energy consumption levels in the steel industry.

To save energy in the steel industry, for each stage, Circular 20/2016/TT-BCT introduces several measures to improve energy efficiency as follows:

1. Sintering process of iron ore

- Recover heat from the sintering area and cooling area;- Layered sintering.

2. Ironmaking process

- Recover energy from blast furnace gas;- Recover energy from the top gas pressure of the furnace;- Save energy in the hot air stove.

3. Steelmaking process using converters

- Recover energy from converter gas;- Online sampling and analysis.

4. Steelmaking process using electric arc furnace

- Optimize the steelmaking process using an electric arc furnace;- Preheat scrap steel;- Apply closed-loop water cooling systems.

5. Steelmaking process using induction furnace

- Perfect the furnace design to reduce energy loss;- Combine with ladle refining furnace.

6. Hot rolling process

- Apply hot charge rolling into the reheating furnace;- Apply direct rolling of hot billets from the continuous casting machine;- Use regenerative burners.

7. Cold rolling process

- Recover heat in the annealing line;- Use turbulent pickling techniques;- Use submerged burners;- Use covers for acid tanks.
