Content of the Khmer Language Program for Elementary and Lower Secondary Levels - Year 1

The content of the first-year Khmer language program for primary and secondary levels is specified as follows:

Knowledge:

1. Phonetics, Writing

- Sounds, letters representing consonants, independent vowels, and tone marks;

- Natural numbers in single-digit form from 1-9;

- Components of words.

2. Vocabulary, Grammar

- Expanding vocabulary (including idioms and proverbs) about oneself, family, school, nature, country, and national culture;

- Grammar: separation indicators for words, phrases, and sentences; punctuation marks.

Skills:

1. Listening

- Listen and differentiate between various sounds, words, and syllables;

- Comprehend simple questions, requests, and instructions in dialogues.

2. Speaking

- Pronounce sounds, words, and syllables correctly;

- Speak loudly, clearly, in full sentences;

- Use greetings, thank you, and apologies appropriately;

- Answer simple questions.

3. Reading

- Spell and combine syllables;

- Read words, sentences fluently;

- Pause reading according to punctuation;

- Read natural numbers from 1-9;

- Understand the meaning of words, sentences, and sentence sequences in the lesson;

- Memorize and recite learned sentences, sequences of sentences, and short passages.

4. Writing

- Write letters representing consonants, independent vowels, tone marks, and natural numbers from 1 to 9;

- Write words and sentences;

- Write words and phrases following separation indicators (Dot-khlia) and punctuation (Khane);

- Write dictations using the look and write method (practice copying).
