By 2030, there will be total of 173 fishing ports in Vietnam

The goal by 2030 is for Vietnam to have 173 fishing ports. This is one of the objectives in the Planning of the System of Fishing Ports and Storm Shelter Anchorage Areas for Fishing Vessels.

On July 03, 2024, Hanoi issued Decision 582/QD-TTg to approve the master plan for the fishing port system and storm shelter areas for fishing vessels in Vietnam for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to Decision 582/QD-TTg, the master plan for the fishing port system and storm shelter areas for fishing vessels in Vietnam up to 2030 is as follows:

By 2030, the whole country will have 173 fishing ports including 39 type I ports, 80 type II ports, 54 type III ports, meeting the total throughput of seafood through the ports of about 2,983,000 tons/year and 160 storm shelter areas for fishing vessels (including 30 regional level and 130 provincial level), accommodating approximately 90,600 fishing vessels.

* Planning by island and mainland

- On the mainland, there are 141 fishing ports, including 33 type I ports, 55 type II ports, 53 type III ports, meeting a total throughput of seafood through the ports of about 2,750,000 tons/year and 125 storm shelter areas for fishing vessels including 20 regional level and 105 provincial level, accommodating approximately 73,940 fishing vessels.

- On the islands, there are 32 fishing ports, including 6 type I ports, 25 type II ports, 01 type III port, meeting a total throughput of seafood through the ports of about 233,000 tons/year and 35 storm shelter areas for fishing vessels including 10 regional level and 25 provincial level, accommodating approximately 16,660 fishing vessels.

* Planning by sea region

- Northern Gulf region (provinces from Quang Ninh to Quang Tri):

+ The fishing port system has 45 fishing ports (including 4 on islands and 41 on the mainland); including 13 type I ports, 19 type II ports, 13 type III ports, meeting the total throughput of seafood through the ports of about 743,000 tons/year;

+ The storm shelter area system for fishing vessels has 47 areas (including 7 on islands and 40 on the mainland); including 7 regional level and 40 provincial level, accommodating approximately 24,080 fishing vessels.

- Central region (provinces from Quang Tri to Binh Thuan):

+ The fishing port system has 82 fishing ports (including 21 on islands and 61 on the mainland); including 16 type I ports, 36 type II ports, 30 type III ports, meeting the total throughput of seafood through the ports of about 1,088,000 tons/year;

+ The storm shelter area system for fishing vessels has 73 areas (including 19 on islands and 54 on the mainland); 16 regional level and 57 provincial level, accommodating approximately 39,920 fishing vessels.

- Southeastern region (provinces from Ba Ria - Vung Tau to Ca Mau):

+ The fishing port system has 33 fishing ports (including 3 on islands and 30 on the mainland); including 7 type I ports, 17 type II ports, 9 type III ports, meeting the total throughput of seafood through the ports of about 713,000 tons/year;

+ The storm shelter area system for fishing vessels has 24 areas (including 2 on islands and 22 on the mainland); including 4 regional level and 20 provincial level, accommodating approximately 17,000 fishing vessels.

- Southwestern region (provinces from Ca Mau to Kien Giang):

+ The fishing port system has 13 fishing ports (including 4 on islands and 9 on the mainland); including 3 type I ports, 8 type II ports, 2 type III ports, meeting the total throughput of seafood through the ports of about 439,000 tons/year;

+ The storm shelter area system for fishing vessels has 16 areas (including 7 on islands and 9 on the mainland); including 3 regional level and 13 provincial level, accommodating approximately 9,600 fishing vessels.

According to the above planning in Decision 582/QD-TTg, by 2030, Vietnam will have 173 fishing ports including 39 type I ports, 80 type II ports, and 54 type III ports.
