A specialized market is a market that specializes in trading a specific category or a number of categories that have their unique characteristics and nature.

- A general market is a market that trades in multiple categories.
- A local market is a type 3 market (managed by communes or wards) that trades in common and essential goods to serve the daily lives of people.
