What is a Basement?
According to the provisions in Section 1.5.13 of the National Technical Regulation QCVN 03:2012/BXD on the principles of classification and grading of civil, industrial, and urban technical infrastructure works issued by the Ministry of Construction, the Basement is defined as follows:
Basement is a floor where more than half of its height is below the ground elevation where the structure is located according to the approved plan.
What is a Semi-basement?
Semi-basement is a floor where half of its height is above or at the same level as the ground elevation where the structure is located according to the approved plan.
Above-ground floor is a floor where its elevation is higher than or equal to the ground elevation where the structure is located according to the approved plan.
Technical floor is a floor that houses the technical equipment of the building. The technical floor can be a basement, semi-basement, attic, or a floor within the middle part of the building.
Attic floor is a floor located within the space of a sloped roof, where all or part of its façade is formed by the inclined or folded roof surface, in which the standing wall (if any) is not higher than 1.5 meters from the floor level.
Additionally, this regulation includes other terms such as:
Construction works
Products created by human labor, construction materials, and installed equipment into the works, which are fixedly linked to the land, and may include underground, above-ground, underwater, and above-water parts, constructed according to the design.
Building (structure)
A construction work whose main function is to protect and shelter people or contained objects; typically enclosed partly or wholly and built at a fixed location.
Civil works
Construction works including types of residential buildings, public buildings, and works.
Types of construction works
Construction works classified according to the purpose of use of the house and works (residential buildings, schools, hospitals, cement factories, water supply, etc.). An investment project may include multiple types of works.
